9th AUGUST- NAGASAKI DAY

Nagasaki Day is observed on 9 August. On this day US dropped an atomic bomb on the Nagasaki city of Japan in 1945 during World War II.    The first bomb was dropped on the city of Hiroshima and the second was dropped on Nagasaki on 9 August which killed around 74,000 people or more. Bomb that was dropped on Nagasaki was known as “Fat Man” .  Plutonium bomb exploded over Nagasaki just two days later on 9 August levelled 6.7 km square of the city and killed around 74,000 people by the end of 1945. The temperature of the ground reached 4,000 degrees Celsius and radioactive rain poured down. On 15 August 1945, the Japanese Emperor announced the surrender and ‘Victory in Japan’ or ‘V-J Day’ celebrations broke out across the United States and other Allied nations.

6th AUGUST - HIROSHIMA DAY

 Hiroshima day is observed on August 6 every year to promote peace politics. It is the day when in 1945 an atomic bomb was dropped in the city of Hiroshima, Japan.  The bomb was equivalent to the power of 12-15,000 tons of TNT and known as Little Boy.   American bomber Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945.  . It reduced four square miles of the city to ruins killing almost 80,000 people and injuring about 35,000.  After three days another atomic bomb was dropped in Nagasaki, Japan. This bombing ended Second World War.  The annual event is organized by the Galway Alliance Against War in Eyre Square. It marks the anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by the United States in 1945.  To promote "peace politics" the Galway Alliance Against War holds the event every year with various programs like music, song, dance, etc.

1-7 AUGUST - WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK

  It is a global campaign that is celebrated every year during the first week of August in several countries across the world.  World Breastfeeding Week first time was celebrated in 1992.                                              Theme of  2022 = " Step Up for Breastfeeding: Educate and Support" Theme  of  2021 = "Protect breastfeeding: a shared responsibility." Theme  of  2020  =   "Support breastfeeding for a healthier planet". The day highlights the benefits that breastfeeding can bring to both the health and welfare of babies.  The day also focuses on maternal health, good nutrition, poverty reduction, etc.  The best source of nourishment for infants and young children is breastfeeding. 30th JULY - INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP DAY

 International Day of Friendship  is observed on 30 July to advocate the role that friendship plays in promoting peace in various cultures. International Day of Friendship promotes the role of friends in life.  A friend is a person that you can always rely on and is considered as closest to you. Someone trustworthy, genuine and accepts you for who you are. International Friendship Day is an initiative of the proposal made by UNESCO. It defines the Culture of Peace as a group of values, attitudes, and behaviours that reject violence and make efforts to prevent conflicts by finding their root causes to solve several problems.  The United Nations General Assembly adopted it in 1997. The International Day of Friendship was proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.

29th July- INTERNATIONAL TIGER DAY

 International Tiger Day is observed every year on 29 July to spread awareness about the need for the conservation of Tigers, promote the protection of the natural habitat of tigers. This day is also known as Global Tiger Day. To raise awareness about the declining tiger population in the world. The day encourages the work of conservation of tiger. Theme of  2021 - "  Their survival is in our hands" The day was founded in 2010, when the 13 tiger range countries came together to create Tx2 – the global goal to double the number of wild tigers by the year 2022. 

28th JULY - WORLD NATURE CONSERVATION DAY

The World Nature Conservation Day is observed annually on  July 28 .  The occasion aims to create awareness about the need to preserve the environment and natural resources in order to keep the world healthy. Saving plants and animals that are threatened with extinction is one of the primary focuses of the World Nature Conservation Day. THEME OF 2021 - " Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Plane t"                        The celebration emphasizes on  keeping the various components of nature such as flora, fauna, energy resources, soil, water, and air intact.  As M.K. Gandhi says - "  EARTH PROVIDES ENOUGH TO SATISFY EVERY MAN'S  NEEDS, BUT NOT EVERY MAN'S GREED."

22nd July - Pi APPROXIMATION DAY

  Pi Approximation Day is observed on 22 July every year because of the value of Pi that is 22/7. While Pi Day is observed on 14th March. Pi APPROXIMATION day is also known as Casual Pi Day, the day is dedicated to the mathematical constant pi (π). Pi denotes the relationship between a circle’s circumference and its diameter and is denoted by the fraction 22/7 which calculates approximately to 3.14. People in countries that write their dates in the date/ month format celebrate Pi Approximation or Casual Pi Day on my 22 July or 22/7.  On the other hand, those who write their date in month/ date format celebrate Pi Day on March 14 (3/14 or 3-14) because the first three digits of the date correspond to the first three digits of pi - 3.14.

20th JULY- NATIONAL MOON DAY

 July 20th commemorates the day man first walked on the moon in 1969. NASA reported the moon landing as being “… the single greatest technological achievement of all time. ” On July 20, 1969 , Apollo 11 carried the first humans to the moon.  Six hours after landing on the moon, American Neil Armstrong stepped onto the lunar surface . He spent two and a half hours outside the spacecraft.  Buzz Aldrin soon followed, stepping onto the lunar surface. The day doesn’t just celebrate the landmark mission. It also celebrates future missions. Private expeditions are taking humans further into space. In 1971, President Richard Nixon proclaimed National Moon Landing Day on July 20th to honor the anniversary of man’s first moon landing. However, no continuing resolution followed.

18th July- MANDELA DAY

It is easy to   break down and destroy.  The heroes are those     who make peace and  build .                                      On 18 July every year, we celebrate Nelson Mandela International Day by making a difference in our communities. The first UN Mandela Day was held on July 18, 2010 .  Everyone has the ability and the responsibility to change the world for the better! Mandela Day is an occasion for all to take action and inspire change. 16th JULY- WORLD SNAKE DAY

  World Snake Day on July 16th urges increased awareness of the wide variety of 3,500 species around the world.  Among the 3,500 species, only about 600 are venomous.   According to the World Health Organization, only about 200 of those pose a significant risk to human life. The world’s smallest snake is the Barbados thread snake. This serpent is smaller than a nightcrawler at about 4 inches.   The longest snake is the reticulated python, and the heaviest is the green anaconda. Reticulated python Green Anaconda 

11th JULY -World Population Day

The theme of 2021 - " The impact of COVID -19 pandemic  on fertility ." The theme for 2022 -   “ A world of 8 billion: Towards a resilient future for all – Harnessing opportunities and ensuring rights and choices for all . World Population Day  is observed every year on  July 11  to raise awareness about global population issues.  The major purpose of this day is to raise awareness of all the negative impacts that population growth has had on the steady development of nature.  Globally, this day is celebrated by organising seminars, discussions, educational sessions, public contests, slogans, workshops, debates, songs, etc.

12th JULY - MALALA DAY

 12 July-  Malala Day is celebrated every year  to celebrate the birthday of activist Malala Yousafzai.  Malala Day was designated by the United Nations to honor the young woman who has been advocating for women's education for years.  Malala Yousafzai, often referred to mononymously as Malala, is a Pakistani activist for female education and the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize laureate.  Born :  12 July 1997  She was 17, when she was awarded the Nobel Prize . She is the world's youngest Nobel Prize laureate, and the second Pakistani and the first Pashtun to ever receive a Nobel Prize.

17 JUNE- WORLD DAY TO COMBAT DESERTIFICATION AND DROUGHT

Every year , 17 JUNE is being observed as WORLD DAY TO COMBAT DESERTIFICATION AND DROUGHT . THEME OF 2019 - "LET'S GROW THE FUTURE TOGETHER" THEME OF 2020 - "FOOD, FEED, FIBRE - SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION AND                                                           CONSUMPTION" THEME OF 2021- "RISING UP FROM DROUGHT TOGETHER" THEME OF 2022 -" RISING UP FROM DROUGHT TOGETHER" AIM - 1) to promote awareness of international efforts to combat desertification.             2) to remind everyone the land degradation neutrality is achievable through problem solving ,                strong community involvement and cooperation.             3) to aware people of their sense responsibility . 12th JUNE -World Day Against Child Labour

12 June is being observed  as the world day against child labour every year since 2002. International Labour Organization (ILO) - a organization of United Nations (UN) recognised 12 June as world day against child labour in 2002. It was spurred by ratification of ILO convention no. -138 which deals with minimum age for employment which is  basically 15 years and the ILO convention no.-182 which deals with worst form of child labour and was adopted on 1992. Theme of this year (2019)- "Children shouldn't  work in field , but on dreams." Last year(2018) theme was-" Generation safe and healthy." Every year this day is observed, so that everyone can focus their attention on the global extent of child labour and can  take actions to eliminate it. But still there is lack of awareness .
