9th AUGUST - INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE WORLD'S INDIGENOUS PEOPLES


  • The theme of 2022  =  “The Role of Indigenous Women in the Preservation                                            and Transmission of Traditional Knowledge”.
  • The theme of 2021= " “Leaving no one behind: Indigenous peoples and the call                                              for a new social contract.” 



  • This day is celebrated on 9 August annually to recognize the first UN Working Group on Indigenous Populations meeting in Geneva in 1982

  •  On 23 December, 1994, the UN General Assembly decided to observe 9 August as the International Day of the Worlds Indigenous Peoples. 

  • According to the UN,  over 476 million indigenous peoples living in 90 countries across the world and accounting for 6.2 percent of the global population.

  • These are the peoples who inherit and practice unique cultures and methods of people related to the environment. 

  • According to the UN, across the world, 47% of all indigenous peoples in employment have no education as compared to 17% of their non-indigenous counterparts.

28th JULY - WORLD HEPATITIS DAY

 World Hepatitis Day is observed annually on 28 July.  THEME OF 2021 - " HEPATITIS CAN'T WAIT " THEME OF 2022 - "BRINGING HEPATITIS CARE CLOSER TO YOU" This day make people aware of the hepatitis disease and its consequences in the life of the people suffering from it. It is celebrated to raise awareness about viral hepatitis which is an inflammation of the liver that causes various problems like liver cancer. Hepatitis virus has 5 main strains namely A, B, C, D, and E. The most common deaths are caused by together hepatitis B and C.  According to WHO-  1,100,000 deaths per year are caused by Hepatitis B and C infections - 9,400,000 people are receiving treatment for chronic hepatitis C virus infection. 25th JULY- WORLD EMBRYOLOGIST DAY

 On 25 July 1978 , Louise Joy Brown became the first baby to be conceived through IVF (In vitro fertilization ) and hence  the day is  celebrated as World Embryologists Day every year. Embryologists play an important role in an IVF clinic. They help in making babies happen or we can say that creating life in their hand. Embryologists are those who study sperm, eggs, and embroys. They will be able to determine which sperm , eggs and embroys are the healthiest and can be selected for IVF treatment.  Sometimes they are also reffered to as 'caretakers' of patients' sperm, eggs, or embryos because they are the nurturers of this new start of life
