9th AUGUST - INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE WORLD'S INDIGENOUS PEOPLES


  • The theme of 2022  =  “The Role of Indigenous Women in the Preservation                                            and Transmission of Traditional Knowledge”.
  • The theme of 2021= " “Leaving no one behind: Indigenous peoples and the call                                              for a new social contract.” 



  • This day is celebrated on 9 August annually to recognize the first UN Working Group on Indigenous Populations meeting in Geneva in 1982. 

  •  On 23 December, 1994, the UN General Assembly decided to observe 9 August as the International Day of the Worlds Indigenous Peoples. 

  • According to the UN,  over 476 million indigenous peoples living in 90 countries across the world and accounting for 6.2 percent of the global population.

  • These are the peoples who inherit and practice unique cultures and methods of people related to the environment. 

  • According to the UN, across the world, 47% of all indigenous peoples in employment have no education as compared to 17% of their non-indigenous counterparts.

16th JULY- WORLD SNAKE DAY

  World Snake Day on July 16th urges increased awareness of the wide variety of 3,500 species around the world.  Among the 3,500 species, only about 600 are venomous.   According to the World Health Organization, only about 200 of those pose a significant risk to human life. The world’s smallest snake is the Barbados thread snake. 28th JULY - WORLD NATURE CONSERVATION DAY

The World Nature Conservation Day is observed annually on  July 28 .  The occasion aims to create awareness about the need to preserve the environment and natural resources in order to keep the world healthy. Saving plants and animals that are threatened with extinction is one of the primary focuses of the World Nature Conservation Day. THEME OF 2021 - " Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Plane t"                        The celebration emphasizes on  keeping the various components of nature such as flora, fauna, energy resources, soil, water, and air intact.  As M.K. Gandhi says - "  EARTH PROVIDES ENOUGH TO SATISFY EVERY MAN'S  NEEDS, BUT NOT EVERY MAN'S GREED."
